Kīpuka, Native Hawaiian Center at Puʻuloa was delighted to welcome Keala Chock, our new Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, on his first day at Leeward Community College last week. With loads of friendly conversation this was truly an intimate gathering of individuals dedicated to perpetuating the mission of Leeward CC which is to “advance the educational goals of all students with a special commitment to Native Hawaiians.” The opportunity to reconnect with old friends and colleagues from across campuses and to congratulate Keala was a treat indeed! It was just like a family reunion with lots of smiles, good food, warm laughter and reminiscing.

Before arriving at Leeward Community College Keala served as the Dean for Career and Technical Education at Honolulu Community College (HCC), overseeing academic programs and workforce development training initiatives. As faculty, he developed and managed the Music & Entertainment Learning (MELE) program. Keala holds a bachelor’s degree in Hawaiian Studies and a master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa.
