Shadehouse
Plant Propagation Facility & Native Hawaiian Garden Program
Leeward CC's award-winning Native Gardens are the largest and most extensive in the entire University of Hawaiʻi system. The Shadehouse is Leeward CC's education and conservation plant propagation center. It supports Plant Biology, Agriculture, and Hawaiian Studies classes. The Shadehouse and Native Garden Program strives to increase awareness about the conservation of Native Hawaiian plants, their cultivation, cultural significance, and uses in the landscape. The Shadehouse also grows plants for conservation and restoration projects, and is entrusted with some of the rarest endangered native plant species. You can volunteer in the gardens, learn about Native Hawaiian plants, earn community service hours for scholarships, and explore possible on-campus employment opportunities.
